Aviation Insurances

Coverage Summary - Various Aviation Covers

Depending on the type of aviation operations to be insured, there are several types of aviation insurance policies that could be considered. These include the following:
Aircraft Hull and Liability:
Similar to a standard motor vehicle cover, Aviation Hull and Liability insurance provides cover for loss or damage to the aircraft hull as well as third party liability for third party property damage or third party injury. Cover can extend to include aircraft machinery as well as gliders.
Aircraft Non-Ownership Liability:
Non-Ownership liability policies cover the liability of third parties operating aircrafts who are not the owners. This includes private pilots and charter operators. The policies cover legal liability to third parties for property damage or injury.
Aircraft Aerial Application Liability:
Specifically designed for aerial agriculture businesses, this policy includes cover for legal liability to third parties resulting from crop spraying.
Hangarman’s Liability:
Similar to a property policy for non-aviation exposures, Hangarman’s Liability (also known as Hangarkeeper’s Liability) covers airside business operations for damage to aircrafts, aviation equipment and personal injury.
Aviation Business Packs:
Similar to an ISR policy (for non-aviation risks), Aviation Business Packs are a broad property cover specifically designed for aviation relating buildings and structures.
Remote Piloted Aircraft Cover:
Similar to aircraft hull and liability covers, Remote Piloted Aircraft cover (or Unmanned Aircraft Systems cover) provides cover for damage to the unmanned craft as well as third party property damage and/or third party injury cover. Generally the policy forms are intended to insure drone operations.
Other covers:
There are further additional covers available for air-side risks particularly for ground handlers and refuellers. Most Airport Construction operations will also need to ensure that their General Liability policies do not include any air-side exclusion.

Coverage Summary - Non-Owned Aircraft Aviation Liability

Often Pilots and Charter Operators are not the owners of the Aircraft being used and as such, may not be responsible for insuring material damage to the Aircraft Hull.
Non-Ownership liability policies cover the liability of third parties operating aircrafts who are not the owners. The policies cover legal liability to third parties for property damage or injury.
The policy is also important for third party aircraft maintenance companies that will be require to move non-owned aircrafts.

Considerations

Though the aircraft may be insured for material damage by the owner, Aviation Non-Ownership Liability policies often include cover for damage cause to the aircraft if required.
In addition, cover can extend to passengers of the aircraft for charterers.
